Courtney Worrell
Courtney is a Programme Manager and part-time PhD student in the Psychoimmunometabolix and Interaction with the Environment (PIXIE)-Lab, the Stress, Psychiatry and Immunology (SPI)-Lab, and the Section of Imaging and Neurobiology of Psychosis (SiNAPs) group in the Department of Psychological Medicine at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN), King’s College London.
First joining in 2015 as an undergraduate placement student, Courtney has since worked on several studies relating to treatment-resistant depression and inflammation. This led to her interest in inflammatory gene expression in depression and specifically the role of childhood trauma. Having a particular interest in clinical trial methodology, Courtney has also developed a keen interest in methodological and ethical aspects of conducting research in such sensitive topic areas, which she is also incorporating into her PhD.
Being passionate about public communications, Courtney is also a Co-Editor and a regular Writer for the digital magazine, Inspire the Mind. The magazine, launched in 2019, provides digestible, lay-friendly content on the intersection between mental health, science and society.
